I live in Ottawa, Canada, and even I found this image stunning.
Winter is here, but it has been too “warm” (a relative term) to produce ice thick enough to support people on the Rideau Canal Skateway—the world’s largest skating rink. The conditions did produce this natural beauty though.
I’ll take it, even as I count the days until I can tie up my skates to glide on that ice.
Oh that is lovely. I’ve never seen anything like it. If we’re going to have winter, then let it be pretty!
Yes. Winter so often is beautiful. I like winter, actually, so I don’t need to struggle to find the happiness in it, but a little extra crystal beauty is a nice bonus.
Wintry designs on a canal – beyond beautiful, stunning!
I have such warm memories of skating on a neighbor’s pond during a PA winter. Sometimes there was hot cocoa. Thanks for these warm and toasty thoughts from Ottawa, Arlene!
I’ll bet our wintry weather is very different from what you are experiencing. There is a dusting of snow falling this morning, but it’s still not cold enough to freeze that canal! Soon, I hope.
Wow! I’ve never seen that on the canal before! What an amazing phenomenon.
I know, right? I thought I’d seen everything wonderful that the canal had to offer, but it was still full of surprises.
The Rideau Canal was pretty much my favourite physical feature in Ottawa. I miss skating on it every day!
It’s fabulous, isn’t it? It wasn’t open for long this year, and because of COVID we got there only one time, but it was a beauty. Perfect sunny day, -5 degrees C. We skated the whole length and back. There is nothing like it. Thanks for commenting!
Yep, it’s awesome, summer and winter!
